Red Blue
COMPLIMENTARY COLORS appear opposite each other on the color wheel, or exactly five colors away from each other on the spectrum (moving to the right in KELLY's "Spectrum III" painting).
Although Kelly has titled this piece "Red Blue", the color is more of an orange, the compliment to blue. Although the colors have the same value, the WARM color, orange, tends to jump out at the viewer, whereas COOL colors, blue, tend to recede.
